You may remember from our newsletter back in February that we were supporting bringing together a Leaders in Advocacy Network.
During July a group of 18 leaders met up to discuss how we can work together to support the sector and each other as well as influencing change. The group decided to put together working groups around four key topics impacting the advocacy sector:
- The Mental Health Act Review, seeking to contribute to progressing the recommendations regarding advocacy that were highlighted in the review
- The Liberty Protection Safeguards, seeking to contribute to the implementation and guidance around LPS as well as thinking about how the sector can prepare for the Liberty Protection Safeguards
- Advocacy Data, seeking to explore and address how a National Data set regarding advocacy (commissioning, delivery, referrals) could inform and influence change
- Equality and Diversity, seeking to explore and address the issues around delivering culturally competent advocacy at a systemic and local level.
Each group is aiming to report back quarterly and we’ll share any news as we get it.
If you would be interested in joining and contributing to any of the groups, please do get in touch at advocacy@ndti.org.uk and we’ll connect you with the individuals coordinating each group.
